 note = {明治・大正・昭和初期の近代経済学者、社会政策学者、また大正デモクラシーの先駆者である福田徳三博士は、カール・マルクスの『資本論』（Das Kapital）を原文で読んだことで知られ、当時の堺利彦ら社会主義者たちは、福田の言論を批判してはいたが、敬意を表していた。
　一方、福田は、社会主義、共産主義には反対するものの、その主義者の活動には常に関心をもち、一種のシンパシーを持っていた。
　本稿は、福田博士と堺利彦を中心に、幸徳秋水、高畠素之、大杉榮などの係わりをとりあげた。, Dr. Tokuzo Fukuda was a scholar of economics and social policy, as well as a pioneer of Taisho Democracy. He read Capital （Das Kapital） by Karl Marx in German. In those days nobody read it in original language. So Toshihiko Sakai and other socialists respected Dr. Fukuda, though they criticized his opinion. Fukuda opposed to the socialism and the Marxism, but he had a certain measure of sympathy for socialists, especially Toshihiko Sakai.},
