There are three essential qualifications to be tested for the written examinations for future high school English teachers in Japan. They are English language knowledge and skills, knowledge of the Course of Study, and the ideas and practical abilities of teaching methods. In Yoshino 2012, the latter two were examined. In this paper, the first one will be addressed. The main purposes of this study are to examine the quality of the questions and to highlight the right or wrong discussions. The contents are divided into two sections. The first one is the survey of the materials for English reading comprehension. The second one is the analysis of the online media materials for English reading comprehension because online media is essential for us to obtain information. The results of the survey and analysis suggest that the current Teaching Employment Examinations used in the Kanto and Kansai regions do not put a high value on critical thinking about language, culture and education.
