This report introduces diaries from the latter part of 1891 (Material of Utako Shimoda No. 33), written from July to December. It makes a survey of Shimoda’s movements from the diaries and explains about some important events. The style of the document is the same as the diaries written in 1888 to June of 1891 investigated in previous reports. The record ends on 18th December because she was busy. From July of 1891, Shimoda recorded works in the school and daily communications such as consultation with two of her students about marriage. As a remarkable event, a huge earthquake occurred on 28th October, the so-called Nobi Great Earthquake, whose seismic center was in Nishineo-mura, Motosu-gun, Gifu. It was the largest scale of inland earthquake in Japanese history and caused severe damage. Hearing the news of the earthquake, Shimoda made bandages with her students and went to a charity meeting for the earthquake held in Rokumei-kan. Investigation of Shimoda’s diaries and other materials reveals relief operations made by Shimoda and people in the Peer Women’s School."}, pages = {(47)--(57)}, title = {〔調査報告〕 実践女子大学図書館蔵 下田歌子自筆日記について(五) 明治二十四年後半の概要}, year = {2020} }
