The Life Composition showed children the composition oftheir life plainly, and let them examine its contents closely in order to guide their viewpoint ofthe life and think the way of life, and so its aim was to revolutionize the recognition ofchildren's life and to improve their life.Kokubu Ichitaro was a teacher who practiced such a Life Composition eagerly, and he alsowas the leader of such an educational movement that is called the Life Composition Movement. In six Tohoku prefectures, it was called especially the Northern Education Movement thataimed at the improvement and progress of a poor hometown and the movement of the socialreform. Under the emperor system of Japan nationalism, it was considered an anti-nationalmovement, and so it was oppressed by "Maintenance of the Public Order Act". In the year1940, 300 teachers were not only arrested but also put in the prison and ousted from theteaching profession. Kokubu was similar. He was freed from the prison in the last year of the Pacific War, and thereafter during severalyears, he started writing activity, and wrote about composition education and national languageeducation. The theory of his Composition Education was the "Examining Composition" whichwas aimed that a child could use for communal living with finding the way of life by observingnature and society and investigating them. Therefore, Kokubu's ideal teacher was the Life Composition Teachers who think about thematerial-mind stability and improvement of the village for the happiness of children.Furthermore, his theory of national language education makes much of the basic scholasticability in particular reading and writing, in other words, his national language education theoryis what we can say is a basic education of national language education with culturalrnationalism. | |||||
