| 内容記述 | Through analysis of Tsuchinoto Midoshi Kugatsu Bibo no Ki (A Memoir of September 1869) written by Juzo Hirao, describing his daughter’s genius for poetry through the events of a day in September 1869, this paper examines the outstanding talents of Utako Shimoda (Seki Hirao) for composing tanka poetry and her reputation in her childhood before her move to Tokyo, which brought her an unexpected encounter with a regional inspector of the Imperial Court. At that time, Juzo, a loyalist of the Iwamura clan, was kept in domiciliary confinement for unclear reasons. This paper also examines the memoir’s description of his confinement. | |||||
