| 内容記述 | "This text is written about the realities of Western home education along with some examples Ms. Shimoda had actually experienced. It is a combination of the objective facts of Western home education and her subjective opinion. Her subjective point of view makes it possible for readers to understand how to adapt some methods of Western home education to the Japanese equivalent instead of pushing it on them. Reading “Taiseishoken Home education” in detail shows us the comparison between the morality based on Christianity and the morality based on Confucianism which was founded on loyalty and filial piety. Those moralities underly both Western and Asian home education. Female education is presupposed to improve women's social status. However, social standard and value which support it are clearly different in Western and Japanese societies. Ms. Shimoda understood the differences and tried to spread female education to follow Japanese standards and values. The female education Ms. Shimoda illustrated was national education and training which we call “being a good wife and wise mother.” However, according to Ms. Shimoda “a good wife and wise mother” was not completely systematic. It is undeniable that this thinking matches with the ideology of “a good wife and wise mother” in the trend of the times, Her idea of “a good wife and wise mother” shows the social significance of the Asian wife and mother by comparing them with the Western notion of them. The words “a good wife and wise mother” find value in Japanese motherhood even in times of Japanese modernization and this expression of thoughts attempt to improve the status of female." |
